The secret to becoming a six figure blogger

by Rob Rammuny on October 20, 2009 · 20 comments

The blogging world has definitely been put to a new set of standards and expectations for each blogger. We have our big name bloggers such as John Chow,  Darren Rowse and many others who bring in six-seven figures yearly from blogging. With the thousands of bloggers out here trying to make it to be the next Darren Rowse or John Chow, a lot of us debate is six-figure blogging still possible? The truth is you have the potential to become a six-figure blogger, you just need to take the right steps to becoming a six-figure blogger, and here is how.

Developing a plan of action and actually doing it!

I’ve met so many bloggers with great ideas and ways to make money with their blog. The huge issue with this is, that only 5% of them actually do something. If you have an idea to get your site up and rolling, don’t procrastinate. Get up and do it, the more time you sit on your ass dreaming about how your blog will be three weeks from now, you could actually have that be a reality by carrying out your plans.

The difference between Darren Rowse and your average blogger is, Darren Rowse didn’t sit down all day with brilliant ideas and not put them into action. He took all his ideas and carried them out. Now look at him, one of the most known bloggers in the world, co-founder of b5media, and brings in over 6 maybe 7 figures yearly. But why would you want to sit back and watch Darren have all the fun? Put your ideas into action and become the next blogging superstar.

Finding your plan of action

Developing a plan of action is simply finding ways to improve yourself as a blogger. Sometimes developing a plan of action is not easy, especially if you are just starting off as a blogger. Every blogger has a plan of action you just need to bring it to life. Whether you are struggling with improving your writing, building content to your website, or trying to develop a way to bring more readers to your blog. It all ties into developing a plan of action. Your not going to improve these skills just by sitting down and hoping for change are you? No, you need to build a schedule and carry out with your plans.

Side note for you bloggers: If you’re having trouble managing your time wisely, and figuring out a good blogging schedule, I suggest reading Alex’s post about The secrets to more effective blogging.

Taking action – Carrying out your plans

This is by par the most important part of becoming a six figure blogger. By now you should have a pretty good idea of what you plan on doing to improve yourself. Now, put it into action. Don’t sit back and watch someone steal your glory because you decided you were too lazy to do something.  Remember, you are the only person that stands in the way of achieving success.

“The huge issue with this is, that only 5% of them actually do something.”

100% true and I wouldn’t be surprised if that number is actually smaller. Action is the only thing that breeds success. Everyone has that “great idea”…how many actually act on it?

Exactly, there are so many that “PLAN” but only few take action.

I think having a plan is definitely a requirement to becoming a six figure blogger. You also need the desire and motivation to wait for the success to come. It doesn’t happen over night and requires lots of work and long hours. You have those few things, then you are on your way to becoming a successful blogger.

I think motivation is a big part of carrying out your plan of action. If you’re not motivated to do something, then you will really struggle actually taking the time to do it.

Having a plan is important…a schedule? Mmmmm I don’t know. Life is constantly changing and so you can’t really fit things into neat little blocks 100% of the time. I think that having a clear idea of where you want to be and how you’re going to get there is important, but don’t stress yourself out with time constraints…just take things at a pace that works for you (don’t procrastinate!) and build momentum.

You are right things do change all the time, but it’s sometimes best to help better organize things and adjust accordingly.

Thanks for another great article! You are right, you cannot achieve anything with out first having a plan but just having a plan is not enough-you need to take that first step and put that plan into action. I think a lot of time it is the fear of failure that holds people back. One cannot succeed unless you first try.

One advantage bloggers have today is there are many professional bloggers who are willing to share their “plan of action” – and because they are already successful THEIR plan is going to be stronger than what we can come up with on our own. Instead of learning everything the hard way we can take the shortcut by following in their footsteps.

I rounded up the best of the bloggers that I know are making money online and provided links to each of their current action plans for becoming a six figure blogger. I’d love to have your input in that post which I have featured in CommentLuv for this comment.

Planning is very important to be successful, but it would be useless if you do not have time management skills. Everything clicks together. You have to learn, teach yourself, and practice these elements. Best thing to do is learn from your mistakes. Do what comes to your mind, and as you do 5-6 projects. Everytime you put up a project, you learn something new or you improve one of your elememnts.
